Review Entries for Day Monday, April 14, 2014

The Regency era ran from 1812 to 1820, although the term often refers to a more extended period from 1795 to the end of WIlliam IV's reign.

Regency furniture is generally elaborately decorated with Classical and Egyptian influences.

In the furniture auction ( to be held on 30th April 2014) of the three day Spring 2014 Quarterly Fine Art Sale, there is a good selection of Regency furniture being offered for auction.

For example, there is a Regency rosewood and carved giltwood library table (FS22/920).

It has a rectangular top with rounded corners and a gilt reeded edge, containing two short drawers in the frieze with central raised gilt panel of scrolling acanthus, anthemions and central flowerhead. It measures 128cm x 67cm and has a pre-sale estimate of £5,000-£7,000.

A Regency carved rosewood scroll end settee is also being offered (FS22/915).

It has an upholstered padded back with shaped paper scroll top rail and reeded and paterae ornament. The upholstered ends have paterae, husk and reeded ornament. It carries a modest estimate of £300-£500.

There is also a later Regency period settee (FS22/918). which carries a pre-sale estimate of £400-£600.

This is just a small selection of the items of Regency furniture on offer in the furniture section of the  Quarterly Fine Art Sale to be held on 30th April 2014.
